Content Guidelines
What RetiPie allows and prohibits, the quality bar every game must meet, and what happens when a game breaks the rules, from a warning to suspension.
RetiPie is an open platform for HTML5 game creators. These guidelines exist to keep the platform safe, fair, and enjoyable for players and creators alike.
Prohibited content
The following types of content are not allowed on RetiPie. Games violating these rules will be removed.
Illegal content
Games must not contain, promote, or facilitate any illegal activity. This includes but is not limited to content that violates intellectual property laws, or promotes illegal drug use.
Gambling
Gambling is completely prohibited. Games must not offer real-money gambling, and must not be built around casino-style mechanics such as slots, poker, roulette, or betting, even with virtual currency. The questionnaire asks about gambling so ratings stay honest, but no answer makes a gambling game acceptable.
Hate speech and discrimination
Games must not promote hatred, violence, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
Harassment and abuse
Games must not be designed to harass, bully, threaten, or intimidate any individual or group. This includes games that target specific real people.
Malware and deceptive content
Games must not contain malware, viruses, trojans, or any code designed to harm users' devices or steal data. Games must not engage in phishing, social engineering, or deceptive practices that trick users into revealing personal information.
Uploading malware or deceptive content will result in immediate and permanent account termination.
Pornographic and extremely violent content
Games must not contain pornographic material, explicit sexual content, or extreme graphic violence (realistic depictions of gore, torture, or mutilation). Stylized cartoon violence typical of action and arcade games is acceptable.
Third-party ads and tracking
Games must not include third-party advertising or tracking scripts. RetiPie handles monetization at the platform level. See the No Ads Policy for full details and technical enforcement.
Quality standards
Games must be functional
Every game on RetiPie must be playable. Games that crash on load, show only a blank screen, or are otherwise non-functional will be removed. Test your game in the device preview before submitting it for review.
No spam or low-effort content
Do not upload duplicate games, near-identical copies with trivial changes, placeholder content, or games that serve no purpose other than to occupy space in the feed. Each game should offer a genuine play experience.
No impersonation
Do not impersonate other creators, brands, or organizations. Your creator profile and game titles must not mislead players about who made the game. Fan games and parodies should be clearly labeled as such.
Age ratings
Every game has an age rating. You set it while uploading: the Age Rating step is a questionnaire about violence, language, sexual content, drugs, and fear or horror, a gambling question, plus yes/no questions about discrimination, user-generated content or player messaging, location sharing, and in-app purchases. RetiPie calculates the rating from your answers: 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+, or 18+. You can't submit a game for review until the questionnaire is complete.
- Answer honestly. Moderators check the rating against the game, and a mismatch gets the game rejected. Repeated mismatches can lead to account action.
- The rating controls who can play. Players see and play only games rated at or below their age, calculated from the date of birth on their account. Players who haven't set a date of birth can play games rated up to 12+.
- Changing a live game's rating works like other detail changes: a change that lowers the minimum age waits for review, while a stricter rating applies at once.
An age rating doesn't make prohibited content acceptable: the rules above apply to every game at every rating.
Enforcement
What happens if my game violates these guidelines?
- Game removal — the game is unpublished and removed from the feed. You will receive a notification explaining which guideline was violated.
- Warning — for first-time or minor violations, you will receive a warning and the opportunity to fix the issue and re-upload.
- Account suspension — repeated violations, or a single severe violation (malware, illegal content), may result in temporary or permanent account suspension.
Severe violations such as malware distribution or illegal content will result in immediate permanent account suspension without prior warning.
Reporting
If you encounter a game that violates these guidelines, use the Report button on the game page. Reports are reviewed by the RetiPie team. We take every report seriously and will act on confirmed violations.
